Are you an admirer rather than a scholar of art? Would you like to learn more about the Baroque style of art? If so, Baroque paintings and baroque frames can best be summed up in one word: emotion.
Unlike the cool rationality of the Renaissance period that preceded it, the Baroque period is characterized by high drama and passion. This is evident in its music, in its architecture - and particularly, in its art. Baroque paintings employ deep colors and contrasting light and dark shadows to create tension. In fact, if you approach art emotionally rather than scholarly, you are already quite an expert in the Baroque style
Inside Oil Painting Portraits
Have you ever looked at famous oil paintings or any paintings and wondered where the artist got his or her inspiration? Sometimes, the answer is clear. For instance, the muse behind Wyeth's Helga paintings is, in fact, his neighbor, Helga. However, sometimes, the answer is not so clear. After all, Jesus and his twelve apostles did not come in and sit for Da Vinci. David slew Goliath long before Michelangelo captured him in stone.
While we may never know for sure where Da Vinci and Michaelangelo got their inspiration, we here at VirginiaRothschild.com do know where Virginia Rothschild got the inspiration for some of her oil painting portraits. And, we would like to share some of that insight with you.
Like many artists, Virginia Rothschild uses her family members, her friends, and occasionally herself as models for her oil painting portraits. For instance, in The Adoration, a neighbor of the artist posed for the Virgin Mary while the baby Jesus is a composite of three different babies. In addition, both Saint Joseph and the oldest shepherd are based on the artist's husband; the youngest shepherd is inspired by her son, and friends modeled for the other shepherds.
